Dragon Ball’ is a work known around the world, with millions of fans spread across the globe. If we take a look at the most popular characters, the list is obvious: Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo... The same goes for the villains, as there is no one who does not know Frieza, Cell or Majin Buu, among others. However, there are some that have almost never been explored in depth, as is the case of Gine, Goku’s mother.

Gine, the Real Mother of Goku and Raditz

The reason why not too many people know about Gine is that she was never mentioned in either the manga or the anime. In fact, the first time we heard anything about this character was in 2014, thanks to the legendary Akira Toriyama talking about her in an interview in that year’s Saikyo Jump.

Gine looks like what she is, a Saiyan: long black hair, white skin, a tail, and the typical armor of the species, but without shoulder pads. She is the wife of Bardock, whom she fell in love with when she was a member of his squadron, so she is also the mother of Goku and his brother Raditz.

Though she can transform into a giant monkey like other Saiyans, the extent of her power is unknown, and since there is no information about her fighting abilities, it is impossible to compare her to the powerful Saiyans we all know.

Gine first officially appeared in ‘Dragon Ball Minus’, a special chapter that was part of the ‘Jaco the Galactic Patrolman’ compilation released in 2014. She was later included in the movie ‘Dragon Ball Super: Broly’.
