This is how Story Mode works in Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero
The Episode Battle mode revisits the history of Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super through the eyes of different characters.
The story of Dragon Ball Z has been repeated over and over again in video games: the saga of the Saiyans, Freezer, Cell, Majin Boo? since the SNES era, the classic characters of the nineties have starred in the same adventures on a loop, something that has continued until now. However, thanks to Dragon Ball Super and the new movies, the series has evolved with new storylines that are reflected in Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero. Spike Chunsoft’s highly anticipated video game, now in Early Access, introduces a story mode that focuses on specific characters and key events.
Players can choose between Son Goku, Vegeta, Son Gohan, Piccolo, Freezer and Goku Black. It’s not that the story arcs are broken down in detail, but rather they focus on the most important battles. What’s interesting is that they are developed from the point of view of each of these characters, which gives them a more unique perspective.
Episode Battle Mode: Here’s what you need to know
The character moves across a very simple board, with no forks or alternate paths. In this sense, the story mode of Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero’s story mode is a bit bland, as the events take place in a very scripted, condensed manner with little variation. The video cutscenes are like moving pictures that put the player in context in a few sequences. Then the battle takes place, all according to what happens in the anime. This is how the characters go through the different story arcs. The little twist comes in some conversations that allow you to make a decision. For example, when Son Gohan and Goku are training in the time chamber, the possibility to go to the rescue of their friends or to continue training is presented. Depending on your choice, one or the other will happen, although these situations do not occur regularly.
The Episode Battle mode combines ‘Dragon Ball Z’ and ‘Dragon Ball Super’. It’s missing ‘GT’ and the original ‘Dragon Ball’ series, which is always left out. In fact, in Sparking! Zero, there are only a few characters from that first stage. The characters from the Season Pass are still missing, but this pack does not include any new features for the Story Mode.
Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero will be released on October 11 for PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC.
