Although the movie changed this small detail, the Electronic Arts video game kept it, so the sequence retains its essence in the adaptation for consoles and PC.
Lord Voldermort did not die the day he murdered Harry Potter’s parents. The boy survived and carried the story of the legend with him as he discovered his true nature at the age of 11. Even before he set foot in the halls of Hogwarts, the evil that had lurked for more than a decade had awakened. The resurrection of the Dark Lord involved the Death Eaters, including Lucius Malfoy, Draco’s father. The young man was also actively involved in his return, but always had his doubts. Despite his actions, he was eventually able to redeem himself, although one of the movie’s deleted scenes would have helped to strengthen this conclusion.
In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, the wizard faces Lord Voldemort. As seen in this deleted sequence below, Draco Malfoy leaves the Death Eaters’ side, runs in the other direction, and hands the wand to Harry Potter. Whether because director David Yates thought it was redundant or for some other reason, the final scene was changed. In the movie, the character appears to be dead, but when he wakes up, he already has the wand in his hand and the final duel to the death begins.
How does the Deathly Hallows video game solve it?
The Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 video game may be one of the worst reviewed in the series. Still, Electronic Arts’ adaptation, which is based on the movie rather than the books, retains the idea of the deleted sequence. In this version, Draco Malfoy doesn’t throw the wand in the air for Harry to pick up but hands it directly to him. Otherwise, the confrontation follows the same guidelines as in the movie of the same name.
Harry Potter began its cinematic run in 2001 with ‘Sorcerer’s Stone’. The final installment was released in 2011, although the saga has continued with the Fantastic Beasts trilogy. HBO Max is also preparing a series based on J.K. Rowling’s original novels, which will premiere exclusively on the platform.
The most successful contemporary product set in the magical universe is undoubtedly Hogwarts Legacy, the best-selling video game of all 2023, which also pleased the critics. The game will receive a free content update this summer.
