This is the series that has already surpassed ‘Solo Leveling’ at the “Anime Oscars” before they even begin

Many claim that ’Solo Leveling’ is “the best anime of the moment.” While the South Korean series has everything to earn that title, it faces strong contenders depending on who you ask. Few anticipated the phenomenon of ’Dan Da Dan’ after its anime debut or the enduring strength of ’One Piece’ decades later. However, one series has quietly captured the hearts of fans.

The series dominating the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards

That series is ’Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End’. The first season of this adaptation of Kanehito Yamada’s manga has earned an impressive 29 nominations at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards. These aren’t minor categories either—Frieren is nominated for Anime of the Year, Best New Series, Best Animation, Best Director, and more.

With its 28-episode first season, fans are eagerly awaiting the second season, which is expected to debut in January 2026.

‘Frieren’ has far surpassed ’Solo Leveling’, which only managed 13 nominations. This places ’Solo Leveling’ on the same level as other notable series like ’Dan Da Dan’, ’Kaiju No. 8′, and ’Delicious in Dungeon’.

It won’t be long before we find out how many awards ’Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End’ will take home at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards, often referred to as the “Anime Oscars.” The event will be held on May 25, 2025, in Tokyo, Japan.
