Tom Cruise receives the first Oscar of his career and makes a promise: “Hopefully without too many more broken bones”
The actor received an honorary award and showed his commitment to cinema.
Hollywood honors Tom Cruise. The actor, nominated four times for an Oscar, has been awarded an honorary statuette, as announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences last summer. The star of ‘Mission: Impossible,’ ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ and ‘Magnolia’ gave an acceptance speech in which he pledged to fulfill a promise. Of course, he hopes to do so without suffering any more serious injuries.
“No matter where we come from, in that theater, we laugh together, we feel together, we hope together, and that is the power of this art form. And that is why it matters, that is why it matters to me. So making films is not what I do, it is who I am,” he said.

Tom Cruise’s promise and commitment to cinema
Cruise has assured that he will do “everything I can for this art form” and that he will support new voices “to protect what makes cinema powerful.” The actor joked that he hopes it will be “without too many more broken bones.” Throughout his career, Tom Cruise has performed his own stunts without stunt doubles, which has led to injuries.
Stunt doubles have never been recognized by the Academy Awards, but that will change starting in 2028, as there will be a new category to honor these professionals.
