Tom Holland confirms ‘Spider-Man 4′ and his first impressions of the film: ‘Zendaya and I were bouncing around the living room’
The actor admits he has already read the script and assures the story is up to the task.
The arachnid soap opera has come to an end. Some time ago we told you that ‘Spider-Man 4′ was in jeopardy due to a creative dispute between Marvel and Sony. While the latter wanted to bring back Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield for the next film, the former (with Kevin Feige at the helm) wanted to go ahead with Tom Holland as Peter Parker and pit him against an undisclosed, villain without multiverses. What did the actor say? Well, that he had his own additional conditions to continue playing the character.
Everything seems to indicate that Holland will continue in the end, not only as the main character but also as executive producer, as he requested. The actor himself has revealed that he is involved in the whole process of the film and that he found the script to be “worthy” he was hoping for. Check out what he had to say about his first reading of the story of ‘Spider-Man 4′. “It needs work but the writers are doing a great job, and I read it three weeks ago. It really lit a fire in me. Zendaya and I sat down and read it together, and we at times were bouncing around the living room like, ‘This is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect. But there’s a few things we need to figure out before we can get that really going, but it’s exciting, and I’m really excited about it.”
“This is the first time in this process that I’ve been part of the creative so early. It’s just a process where I’m watching and learning.. It’s just a really fun stage for me. Like I said, everyone wants it to happen. But we want to make sure we’re not overdoing the same things,” the actor said. Holland has even gone from not knowing if he would do ‘Spider-Man 4′ to let it be known that he wants to keep making superhero movies (plural, actually). Will he be ready for another trilogy?
While rumor has it that the bar has been lowered in terms of cameos and inter-world jumping (there’s talk of the Kingpin or the Prowler as villains in a rougher, simpler story), it’s also true that Holland considers Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse to be the best film ever made for the character. Will he be looking for live-action to approximate his experience? Or will his joy come from a crossover with Venom? Let’s remember that Tom Hardy left the door open. Dozens of possibilities and only one reality: the Wallcrawler is here to stay?
