Tom Holland promised a surprise, but it had nothing to do with Spider-Man 4

The actor who gives life to the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man had promised something that caught the attention of fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Actor Tom Holland has revealed his next project, and while we’re likely to see him in tights again, it won’t be as Marvel’s famous wall-crawler.

Tom Holland, from New York to West London

Through his Instagram account, actor Tom Holland had announced that he had a surprise for his followers through a story on the social network. Although some speculated that it would be the announcement of Spider-Man 4 and thus his return to the MCU, everything was far from it. In the end, Holland announced that he would be returning to London’s West End theaters to bring Romeo Montague to life in a new production of Romeo and Juliet by the immortal Bard of Avon, William Shakespeare.

There is no indication that Zendaya will be Juliet Capulet.

This production marks Holland’s return to the London stage, where he rose to fame in the 2009-2010 production of Billy Elliot: The Musical, prior to his movie stardom. The production will open on May 11 for a limited 12-week run at the Duke of York Theatre, with no further details on the rest of the cast or who the other lead will be. Tickets go on sale February 13.

Tom Holland’s return to the MCU, on one condition

The actor made the decision to take a break from acting last year after the Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room. And at the same time, he gave Marvel Studios an important condition for his return as Spider-Man: “If we can’t find a way to compete with the third one [Spider-Man: No Way Home], he’ll ride off into the sunset.

The situation is complicated by the fact that Marvel and Sony, which currently hold the film rights to the character, have opposing visions of where Spider-Man should swing: whether to go for a more “realistic” side or do something “big”. One wants to focus on Holland, while the other wants to stick to the muiltiverse and nostalgia.
