Toy Story 5 is bringing Woody and Buzz back from retirement again, to release in 2026

Disney has just revealed the first details of Toy Story 5, which will bring back Buzz, Woody, and the rest of the toy gang to fight for kids’ attention against… electronics.

During D23 2024, the Disney presentation where they reveal their most important upcoming projects and releases across all of their properties, filmmaker Andrew Stanton took the stage to reveal a first good look at Toy Story 5, in which the usual toy gang led by Woody, Buzz and Jessie will have to duke it out “against electronics.”

While not much was shown in regards to animation previews, other than the teaser below which was on screen while the announcement was being made by Stanton, the filmmaker did share some concept art and plot details about the upcoming movie, including the fact that he’ll be writing and directing the movie.

Additionally, images on screen showcased some of the most recognizable toys looking at Bonnie, their child, under her bed covers playing with a tablet device. Apparently, this new movie will see the gang fighting for the attention of children. And perhaps that fight might be a bit too literal, as another of the pieces that was revealed at the show included an army of menacing Buzz Lightyears, all with glowing red lights on their chests hinting at their evilness.

Pixar’s Toy Story 5 will be released in theaters all over the world on June 19, 2026.
