Twitch responds to safety concerns, promises secure experience at TwitchCon 2025
Twitch responds with enhanced security measures amid rising threats and community anxiety.

With the tenth anniversary of TwitchCon set to begin on October 17-19 in San Diego, California, the event is grappling with a major wave of cancellations from some of the platform’s biggest names. Following multiple real-world safety incidents targeting online personalities this year, high-profile streamers—including Valkyrae, QTCinderella, Pokimane, Hasan, and Asmongold—have publicly announced they will not be attending. Their primary concern is the physical safety of themselves and their fans in an open convention setting.
Twitch was obliged to acknowledge the “uptick in concerns” from the community in a comprehensive statement on October 8 as a result of this creator exodus. Serious recent incidents, like the March murder of Japanese streamer Airi Sato during a live broadcast and the September shooting of political journalist Charlie Kirk, have been cited by streamers as sobering proof of the growing threats they face.

Enhanced security to protect attendees
Twitch’s official response aims to reassure attendees and address the direct feedback regarding security vulnerabilities at the convention. The company has promised “robust security measures” and is implementing a multi-layered approach to protect everyone at the San Diego Convention Center.
The most significant takeaway for the player community is the clear enhancement of on-site personnel and screening protocols. Twitch said that in order to keep forbidden objects out of the arena, attendees would have to go through stringent screening processes at every entrance. Furthermore, the company announced a collaboration with the San Diego Police Department, ensuring that armed and uniformed officers would be on hand. This visible police presence will work with security and plainclothes workers to provide a level of protection that has not been specifically specified in previous events.

In addition to the obvious security, Twitch has a specialized, round-the-clock command center that is manned by “highly trained security teams.” Security will be able to respond quickly to any possible events thanks to this center’s extensive venue monitoring. These actions are meant to bring the weekend’s focus back to the committed community members who still intend to attend. TwitchCon San Diego is for community and celebration. We’re focused on making this year’s event the best one yet," indicating a dedication to offering a secure setting in spite of the present anxious atmosphere.
