Twitch streamer Fandy becomes first to livestream childbirth on the platform

In a historic first for the platform, Fandy documented her entire childbirth live, reaching over 30,000 viewers.

Update:

In the world of streamers, performing certain activities for your audience is important. From gaming challenges to recording in real life, there is a long list of options to choose from. But this week, something happened that no one ever imagined would happen on a streaming service: Twitch streamer Fandy gave birth online.

“My water just broke so I think I’m going this live”

In a major first for the platform, Twitch streamer Cady “Fandy” Hoffmann—known primarily for her Overwatch 2 and World of Warcraft streams—livestreamed the birth of her daughter, Luna, on Tuesday, October 7. The event began with an immediate announcement on her X account: “My water just broke so I think I’m going this live.” The unprecedented eight-hour broadcast captivated her audience and made Fandy the first person to openly document a childbirth on Twitch.

The stream began, and during this time, the streamer prepared everything, walked around, did exercises, and even read the messages of support that appeared in the chat and were displayed on her television. When the time came, she eventually got into an inflatable water birth pool. Despite all the pressures that can happen before giving birth, from the mother’s bodily reactions to possible complications during delivery, after eight hours surrounded by her family and friends, she gave birth to a baby girl whom she named Luna.

The broadcast received an unexpected show of support from the highest level of the platform when Twitch CEO Dan Clancy appeared in the live chat to offer his well wishes. “Fandy, best of luck and congratulations. Wishing you the best in this journey,” Clancy wrote, an appearance that underscored the official acceptance of the stream on the platform.

The stream reached a peak of nearly 30,000 concurrent viewers, showcasing the massive public interest in this boundary-pushing content.
