Two actors from ‘How I Met Your Mother’ to reunite in one of the most successful series on Apple TV+

How I Met Your Mother, which aired from 2005 to 2014 over nine seasons, followed Ted Mosby as he narrated to his children—through flashbacks—the key life moments that eventually led him to meet their mother. The show remains one of the most beloved of the century, with millions of fans worldwide. Now, two of its stars are set to work together again in Season 3 of Shrinking, one of the most talked-about shows on Apple TV+.

Starring Harrison Ford and Jason Segel (Marshall from How I Met Your Mother), Shrinking centers around Jimmy, a therapist who, after the death of his wife, begins speaking bluntly and truthfully to his clients in an effort to heal himself. In Season 2, Cobie Smulders (Robin in HIMYM) made a brief cameo. Now, Shrinking creator Bill Lawrence has confirmed in an interview with TVLine that Smulders will return in a more prominent role for Season 3.

At the end of Season 2, Jimmy (Jason Segel) meets Sofi (Cobie Smulders), a woman reeling from her divorce after her husband left her for her best friend. Both characters share the pain of recent loss, which leads them to form a connection—and possibly a relationship.

With Sofi set to become a recurring character in the third season, these two HIMYM actors will reunite more than a decade after the show’s finale.

Reacting to the news, Cobie Smulders expressed joy at working with Segel again:

“I’m working with Jason again, which is something I’ve truly missed. The series is so well-written, and when a character feels alive straight from the script, everything becomes easier. I already have a deep bond with Jason, so it was easy to explore something different in front of the camera. And Jason is so charming—it’s easy to be swept away by him,” she told Entertainment Weekly.
