Ubisoft is reportedly working on a cozy game that mixes Animal Crossing and Minecraft

A new leak has revealed that Ubisoft is working on a cozy game born from a canceled project, seemingly mixing concepts from Animal Crossing and Minecraft.

Animal Crossing New Horizons

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth parodied Animal Crossing with a whole section of the game clearly inspired by the work of Nintendo, but Ubisoft is going even further by seemingly developing a full title in the same vein. According to a leak shared by Insider Gaming, the project has been in development for about 18 months. Known under the codename Alterra, the game takes advantage of the resources of a canceled title, which was in development for approximately 4 years. The description matches the style of Animal Crossing, a title in which players live with other neighbors and interact with them while carrying out daily activities. But at the same time, it appears to have building and crafting elements similar to Minecraft.

Alterra will take players to an island inhabited by characters called Matterlings. Sources consulted by this media have revealed that users will be able to travel to other worlds, which will contain different biomes, characters, enemies, and materials. There they will also be able to interact with more players.

Minecraft-style construction

The construction mechanics are similar to those of Minecraft, in the sense that you will have to gather specific materials to build something specific. “For example, If a player wants to create something made of snow or ice they will have to travel (by unknown means) to a frozen world inhabited by Matterlings of snow and ice,” explains Insider Gaming.

The characters’ design looks like Funko Pop, with disproportionately large heads. According to the leak, the characters are inspired by fantasy characters such as dragons or swamp monsters, but real animals are also introduced. The Matterlings, for their part, will not be uniform, so there will be different varieties and styles. At the moment, more details are unknown, including its possible release date.
