Ubisoft launches a new division for its major franchises with Tencent investment
The strategic move aims to accelerate development and expand the reach of Ubisoft’s flagship franchises.

Ubisoft has announced the creation of a new subsidiary dedicated to its major franchises: Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six, and Far Cry. This strategic restructuring is backed by a 1.16 billion euro investment from Chinese technology giant Tencent, which will take a minority stake in the new entity. According to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, the move marks the beginning of “a new chapter in its history.”
A new creative and strategic hub
Ubisoft’s decision is based on the desire to maximize the potential of its major franchises, which the company itself values at around 4 billion euros for this new business unit. The subsidiary will be responsible for the “back catalog and any new games currently under development or to be developed,” with teams distributed in Montreal, Quebec, Sherbrooke, Saguenay, Barcelona, and Sofia.

Guillemot emphasized that this restructuring is a “fundamental step” in Ubisoft’s transformation, designed to drive innovation and strengthen its core brands. The subsidiary’s mission will be to expand the reach of these game universes by “building strong game ecosystems designed to become evergreen, growing high-performing brands.” The strategy includes not only the creation of “new IPs powered by cutting-edge and emerging technologies.” Ubisoft’s approach with this new structure goes beyond conventional releases, seeking to turn Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six, and Far Cry into “unique ecosystems.”
This move comes after a difficult period for Ubisoft, marked by a fall in its share price and some lackluster launches among fans, causing a commercial performance below expectations, such as Star Wars Outlaws, Skull & Bones, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
