Ubisoft’s legendary franchise will soon have a new live-action adaptation: the Far Cry series is still underway
The official Far Cry series comes from the creator of ‘Alien: Earth,’ and its lead actor will be one of the stars of ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.’
Video game adaptations for film and television series are enjoying a very sweet moment, thanks to the quality of productions such as ‘The Last of Us’ and ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie,’ French company Ubisoft didn’t want to be left behind, and in August, it was announced that a Far Cry series was in the works, created by the creator of Alien: Earth. Now, new details have emerged, such as that it will be an anthology series and will be streamed on Hulu in the United States.

Variety broke this news on November 24. ‘Far Cry’ will air on FX, a Disney-owned channel that focuses on adult productions such as American Horror Story and Sons of Anarchy. Although no premiere date has been set yet, Far Cry is expected to stream on Hulu in the United States and on Disney+ internationally.
The series is being developed by Noah Hawley (‘Alien: Earth’) and Rob Mac (‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’). Mac will star in the first season of ‘Far Cry,’ and although no specific details about the plot have been revealed, it has been announced that it will follow an anthology format, with each season taking place in a different location and featuring different characters. This series will strengthen both men’s professional relationship with the FX network; ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ —in which Mac is one of the main actors— has been on the air for 17 seasons, and Noah Hawley has previously created other notable productions for the channel, such as ‘Fargo’, which also follows an anthology format.
Based on the property on which Far Cry is based, we can reasonably assume that the plot will focus on a small fictional region or country, with a warlord as the villain and a group of guerrillas or liberators determined to overthrow him, combining action and some dark humor, as has been the case in the latest installments of the franchise. It is not expected to directly adapt any specific game, but instead to offer new stories with a similar tone. Interestingly, Far Cry already had an unsuccessful film adaptation in 2008, starring Til Schweiger (Inglourious Basterds) and directed by Uwe Boll (The House of the Dead).
