Valorant is finally available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S
After a prolonged open beta on consoles, Riot Games has officially launched Valorant on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Released originally back in 2020 , Riot Games’ competitive team-based shooter Valorant quickly became a success among the gaming community thanks to its fast-paced, compelling tactical take on the genre that basically mixed Counter-Strike with Overwatch. However, the game has been confined ever since only to PC players. But today that changes.
Riot Games has just launched Valorant on consoles, after a long wait that included a few beta periods to let players on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 get a taste of the action while the developers fine-tuned their servers and the game itself to deliver the best possible experience. This official release comes with a few caveats, however, that are being set in motion to “maintain Valorant’s renowned standard for competitive integrity.”
Main among these details is the fact that there will be no crossplay between the PC version and consoles, as the skill level involved with varying control setups could actually affect the game’s rank system for the worst. Additionally, players who log into the full version of the game will see that all ranks have been reset on consoles, which is the result of the team performing final re-balancing after studying the way people played on the new platforms.
“Before the beta we had to make some assumptions about who would join, how many hours you’d play, and how quickly you’d develop your skills,” said Steven Eldredge, director of Game Production at Riot, in the video above. “And since all of you blew past our skill projections, we’ve been seeing some pretty big inconsistencies in our ranks across VALORANT Console.”
“To resolve this, we’ll be performing a reset of Competitive Console ranks as we go into launch. After the reset we’ll be asking players to participate in new placement matches in order to better identify their new rank. There’s a very likely chance your new rank will be lower than you were before, and that’s to be expected with the changes we’ve made in order to even out the populations in each rank.”
