Update:

Valve makes a bold move in the video game industry. After popularizing the concept of a console and handheld with Steam Deck, the American company confirms its new hardware lineup led by a desktop console. It’s called Steam Machine, it will arrive in early 2026, and its design will sound quite familiar.

Everything we know about Steam Machine

We find ourselves with a small, square-shaped console, similar to the Xbox Series X but half the size. On the front, there is a power button, two USB ports, and an SD card reader. This move is consistent with Steam’s track record in recent years, which suggested that the Bellevue-based company was preparing a “console-like computer” that would natively run Steam OS, the operating system already used by Deck and which has been in development for many years in preparation for moments like this.

These are its specifications:

  • CPU: Semi-custom AMD with Zen 4 architecture, 6 cores, and 12 threads
  • GPU: Semi-custom AMD RDNA3 architecture with 28 CU
  • RAM: 16 GB DDR5 RAM + 8 GB GDDR6 VRAM
  • Power: Internal power supply, 110–240 V AC
  • Storage: Two models (512 GB or 2 TB NVMe SSD)
  • Wi-Fi: 6E
  • Bluetooth: 5.3
  • Video: DisplayPort 1.4 (up to 4K at 240 Hz with HDR and FreeSync) and HDMI 2.0 (up to 4K at 120 Hz with HDR and FreeSync).

It will come with a controller that will be the successor to the now discontinued Steam Controller. Some of its design philosophies remain present and have even evolved. Under the sticks are two haptic touchpads that simulate the movement of a PC cursor, designed for games that require a mouse to move around. It is a chunky controller, huge when compared to those of its competitors.
