Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 isn’t officially out yet, but it is already a huge success
The highly awaited Space Marine 2 by Saber Interactive isn’t technically out yet, having only started its “early access” period before release, but its numbers would make the Emperor proud.
In the grim darkness of the dark future, there is only war… but why wait until then when Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is already bringing its eternal war to PC and consoles, even before its release? To the surprise of many, the long-awaited sequel to the early 2000′s game isn’t officially out yet, but it’s already doing huge numbers on Steam.
According to SteamDB, a specialized website that tracks a variety of stats on the Valve storefront and platform for PC, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 hit an all-time peak number of concurrent players of 134,302. While this number is already impressive, it’s important to note that all of these are only players on Steam who purchased one of the more expensive editions of the game, which included early access to the full game 5 days before its official release date.
As it stands, Space Marine 2 is set to be released to everyone on September 9, 2024, and yet its numbers are already impressive. It’s become the #2 most wishlisted title on the store, and is currently the #1 top seller on Steam as well. The game is also sitting on a Mostly Positive review score, which means that over 75% of the user reviews are positive, and there’s already over 16,000 individual reviews on the platform.
At the time of writing, which is on a Friday afternoon barely before the traditional work and school day is over, there are 109,004 players in-game, either enjoying the various co-op modes from the campaign and its additional co-op missions, or playing the surprisingly fantastic PvP competitive mode, Eternal War.
Developed by Saber Interactive (who are also behind the overlooked World War Z games) and published by Focus Entertainment, Space Marine 2 is already being considered a massive success for those behind it. Will you be joining the grim dark future of the 41st millennium?
