Warning for iPhone 17 Pro users: this design flaw could damage your phone if you don’t take action
Users who don’t use a case are getting an unpleasant surprise.
The iPhone 17 is now available, promising further developments for next year. The 2025 models feature notable design changes, especially in the Pro and Pro Max versions. The new rectangular camera module is causing users the most headaches.
The problem with the iPhone 17 Pro chassis: use a case
This is all about users who don’t use a case to protect their device. As it is a pronounced module on the upper rear part of the chassis, when you place it on surfaces, it rests on them along with the camera lenses. If you’re not careful, you can scratch the edges of its aluminum body.
The problem is more pronounced in the “cosmic orange” color. On Reddit, users are posting messages encouraging their fellow network members to put a case on their phones if they don’t want to encounter this unpleasant surprise. These scratches are not only due to the design, but also to the change in the chassis material, which has gone from titanium to aluminum. The chosen material is less hard and resistant than the material used in the premium iPhone 15 and 16 models.
This change is mainly due to the use of a vapor chamber inside the device as its main heat sink. Aluminum is a better thermal conductor than the other options used by Apple to date. Despite this minor drawback, the truth is that heat dissipation is much better here than in previous models: it manages to reduce the maximum heat reached by previous models by around 10 degrees.
