We finally know who Mario’s new voice actor is

Charles Martiner gave Mario his iconic and legendary voice for over 25 years, but Nintendo suddenly brought in someone new. Now we know who they chose.

It’s been a couple of months since Nintendo surprised everyone by confirming that the legendary Charles Martinet would no longer voice Mario, and ever since then we’ve been wondering who had been chosen to carry the torch in the upcoming Super Mario Bros Wonder. Well, you can stop looking for an answer, as the voice actor himself made the announcement on Twitter/X.

“Incredibly proud to have voiced Mario and Luigi in Super Mario Bros. Wonder”, said Kevin Afghani in a small post on his personal X/Twitter account. “Thanks to Nintendo for inviting me into the Flower Kingdom!” The news has since been confirmed by Nintendo themselves, by simply stating in an email to The Verge, “The voice actor’s name is Kevin Afghani.”

Is the legacy of Mario safe with his new voice?

So who exactly is the plumber’s new voice actor, and what else has he done in the industry? Well, Afghani is an active voice actor who still doesn’t have many credits to his name. According to his IMDB page, apart from Super Mario Bros. Wonder itself, the actor has six credited roles in total, with the only other video game part being Arnold, from the English dub of Genshin Impact.

The Big N seems to have preferred some new blood instead of going for another big name in the industry. After all, Charles Martinet was technically a newcomer to video games when he got the role of Mario. If you have any doubts about whether or not he might do a good job, then don’t worry: you can already hear his work through the many pieces of content that has been released about the upcoming Nintendo Switch title. Take a look below.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder will be available exclusively for Nintendo Switch on October 20, 2023.
