Wesley Snipes’ emotional farewell to Kris Kristofferson: “Always your student”

Wesley Snipes bids farewell to his friend and mentor Kris Kristofferson, recalling their relationship in the Blade trilogy of the late 1990s and early 2000s.

The death of Kris Kristofferson on September 28th has provoked all kinds of reactions from other great personalities and artists who worked with him, such as Barbra Streisand. Wesley Snipes, the protagonist of the ‘Blade’ trilogy from the beginning of the century, in which Kristofferson was Abraham Whistler, his friend and mentor, paid his respects to the deceased through a publication full of sentimentality.

Wesley Snipes’ final farewell to Kris Kristofferson

The actor who brought Blade to life in both the original film trilogy and Deadpool and Wolverine said goodbye to his former co-star and mentor on the big screen with a pair of posts on social network X.

“Family Kristofferson, Pardon the delay. I was talking with GM Kris about how he learned me, by way of example,  baritones have more fun, valor is cool, real fun and fame is having a beautiful family and It takes bravery to be a ‘good’ human with so many ‘vampires’ around. I told GM Kris, ‘Hey Whistler,’  while on purpose, ‘you keep making those weapons—love, passion, skillmastery, and swag—and I’ll keep using them.’ Always your ‘Student’ aka ‘the Daywalker,’” Snipes’ two posts on his X account read.

Wesley Snipes referred to Kris Kristofferson as “Whistler” for his role in the “Blade” film trilogy (1998-2004), where he played Abraham Whistler, the mentor and comrade-in-arms of Eric Brooks, aka Blade, in his eternal battle against vampires. Throughout his extensive career spanning more than half a century, Kristofferson has left his mark on film, television, and music. One of his last and most memorable roles was as Whistler in the Blade films.

For Snipes, his relationship with Kristofferson transcended fiction, and the actor has lost not only a fellow actor, but a friend and mentor who taught him valuable lessons both on and off the set. His farewell was very emotional, and many users of this platform took the opportunity to send their condolences to both the family and the actor.

With his departure, Kris Kristofferson leaves an immortal legacy in the history of music and film and in those who, like Wesley Snipes, had the privilege of sharing moments with him.
