What does the Nintendo Switch 2 look like? Rumors grow from China after the appearance of what would be its first images

Several popular forums in China share what would be the first images of Nintendo Switch 2 inside the production line.

It is inevitable. The anticipation surrounding the successor to the Nintendo Switch is taking speculation to a level rarely seen in recent history. In recent days, some information coming from China has gained weight, claiming that the production of the console has already begun. Rumors, since it is impossible to contradict them; but this Wednesday, September 18, the question has gone further. In portals of the Asian country, (collected by ResetEra) have appeared the first images of what would be the final version of Nintendo Switch 2.

If the images are real, what have we learned from Nintendo Switch 2?

Let’s start with the Joy-Con. The following image shows three significant changes compared to the 2017 model. The rail format changes for a solution by magnetic pieces that fit directly into the tablet part of the console. On the front of the right side, an extra button appears below the home button; it could be a share button complementary to the one on the left side, but it would be strange to repeat the command on both Joy-Con. On the other hand, an extra slot appears on the back of the body in a vertical position under the triggers. This could be the button that unlocks them, but it remains to be seen.

These developments fit with the reports that surfaced last April. What is more interesting is the concept that the same leaker shared in 3D modeling software. The console would look like this, with a size significantly larger than the 2017 model of its predecessor. The shape also seems more rounded, and the frames would be narrower in comparison, something that could already be seen in the OLED version of the Nintendo Switch.

There are a few notable changes to the case beyond the ones already mentioned. Curiously, the top now has a USB-C output in addition to the 3.5mm audio jack. The dock input on the bottom remains, so it would be an extra slot to charge the console in desktop mode, for example. The cartridge slot remains. The images were confirmed by VGC sources.

What about the specifications of the Nintendo Switch 2?

The same website (this time picked up by Reddit) has shared what would be the specifications of the console. We will not go into technical details. The most notable is that the storage of the model they are referring to is 256 GB, UFS 3.1 at 2100 MB/s. It will have a built-in microphone and inside it will have two fans to dissipate heat. The HDMI output will be 2.1, the current standard already used by current PlayStation and Xbox consoles. The RAM memory will be two dual-channel pieces of 6 GB DDR5, so it would have a maximum of 12 GB.

It coincides with the data leaked last May on Famiboards. A ResetEra user already went ahead then that it was equivalent in brute force “above PS4 without DLSS” in handheld mode, while in dock it would be “between PS4 Pro and Xbox Series S before DLSS with more modern hardware”.

The truth is that the next few weeks are crucial to know if it is real or, on the contrary, Nintendo has prepared a surprise that has not yet seen the light of the Internet. The only tangible thing is that the company led by Shuntaro Furukawa will make the official announcement sometime in the remainder of the fiscal year (which ends on March 31, 2025).
