What happened to the rest of the countries in the Fallout world? The story leading up to the Great War of 2077

The destruction of the planet and a worldwide state of madness from which no one could escape.

Fallout is experiencing a moment of greatness with the premiere of its television adaptation on Prime Video. A series that was born in 1997 and has grown tremendously since then, with massive success since the release of Fallout 3 in 2008. A post-apocalyptic world that revolves around the United States, and throughout the games we have visited several locations. But some of you may be wondering what happened to the rest of the world in Fallout? A question that has an answer, and that is that the franchise over the years has also had locations that are part of a country like Mexico and even outer space.

Fallout’s Great War

If there was one event that changed the world of Fallout forever, it was The Great War. On October 23rd, 2077, the United States, China, and other countries bombarded each other with nuclear missiles for two hours. A nuclear exchange that destroyed the world as we knew it, destroying civilization and creating all the mythos we have seen throughout the franchise with its shelters and the inhabitants of the Wasteland and other places. How did that happen? In the 21st century, the world has returned to the madness of the Cold War, with the global supply of fossil fuels drying up and desperation growing among the population.

Natural resources ran out, and many small countries collapsed. Europe and the Middle East fought a long war for control of the few resources that were still useful, until they dried up in 2060 and the war ended. The world is on the brink of destruction: Israel is destroyed by a terrorist nuclear weapon, and the European Community disintegrates over the various disputes. In 2066, China attacked Alaska to get the last drops of oil in the world, an event we can relive in Fallout 3 through Operation: Anchorage DLC, and which in Fallout’s world would end as a conflict in 2077, after Canada was annexed by the United States in 2076, providing the fuel needed to reclaim Alaska.

After the nuclear attack in 2077, most of the planet became a radioactive desert. It took several decades for the world to start moving again, and humanity has a lot of work to do in the world of Fallout.

What locations have been featured in the Fallout series over the years?

Over the nearly three decades of the Fallout saga, we have visited many states: California, Nevada, Oregon, Virginia, Pennsylvania, the District of Columbia, Alaska, Maryland, Massachusetts, Maine, and West Virginia. A variety of places, passing through cities such as Washington D.C., Las Vegas, Pittsburgh, Boston, Anchorage.... The variety is huge, but generally in the United States, with the exception of some areas that are part of Mexico in the first Fallout and a Fallout 3 DLC where we go into outer space after being abducted.

The review of Fallout in Meristation USA points out that “The adventure of Lucy, Maximus, and The Ghoul manages to understand what made the video games work and transport it into an adaptation that may not have the most original story, but it transports the essence of the game. The work produced by Jonathan Nolan is a strong step forward in the wasteland and we can’t wait to see its sequel.”
