The Game Awards

What to expect at the GOTY 2024 gala: exclusives, announcements and what's new at The Game Awards

Borderlands 4 and Mafia: The Old Country are some of the games that will be part of the gala.

Expectativas The Game Awards 2024 Videojuegos

The Game Awards has become the industry’s big showcase for what’s to come in the months and years ahead. The 2024 edition will be special, celebrating the tenth anniversary of the format, under the leadership of Geoff Keighley. We already know the date and time of the event, so all that’s left is to know what’s important: the winners of each award among the nominees and the games that will be featured at the gala.

The Game Awards edition with more bombshell news?

It was the surprise of Gamescom 2024, and Take-Two promised we’d see it before the end of the year. Borderlands 4 will give us our first look at the next-gen gameplay of the franchise, sharing the stage with the first gameplay of the highly anticipated Mafia: The Old Country.

Several media such as VGC and The Verge claim that Geoff has several bombshells this year that will surprise us. Jason Schreier goes even further and says that at least two games will be very surprising, but both point to 2026. Which one will it be? We’ll see. What we do know is that Hideo Kojima will be one of the presenters at the gala, which suggests that we will see the new Death Stranding 2 trailer. It’s time for a release date and PlayStation knows it.

It will also be time to present the new game from Josef Fares and Hazelight Studio, the creators of It Takes Two. Pyoro, a well-known insider, showed a picture of Sonic driving a car next to Shadow. Will it be time to see a new Sonic Racing? SEGA is one of the main companies supporting the gala, so it’s not surprising.

Speaking of SEGA, one of the strongest rumors of the last few months is the presentation of Persona 6 on this very stage. And what about From Software? Shadow of the Erdtree is competing for GOTY and we don’t know anything about what they’re doing next. Events created with Geoff Keighley are usually Miyazaki’s favorites when it comes to presenting his game catalog. On the other hand, we’ll always have to wait for Silksong. If not at The Game Awards, we’ll have to wait until 2025.
