What to expect from the Apple Keynote on May 7, 2024? New iPad Pro OLED, Magic Keyboard, Pencil 3 and more

Apple is getting ready for its first 2024 event focused on the next generation of iPads and all of its accessories.

Apple

Apple has already announced its next Keynote, or what is the same, the new event in which they plan to present company news for the next few months. No detail has been revealed about it yet, apart from the time it’s taking place and how to see it, but as always happens in these cases, most surprises are already open secrets that have been rumored for a long time. It is assumed, for example, that the presentation will focus on the next generation of iPad and accessories and peripherals for the device. But what else is known?

New Apple Pencil 3

The image of the event and its slogan (‘Pencil us in for May 7!’) leave no room for the imagination. A new Apple Pencil is coming. The first was launched in 2015 and the second in 2018, so there has been enough time to come up with important new features for the peripheral. It is true that they released a third version in November 2023, but it was just an update to the Apple Pencil 2 that included a USB-C port for it.

Between news about a hypothetical Apple Pencil 3 there is talk of interchangeable magnetic tips, hardware that allows it to be located using the Search network (as if it were an AirTag), and new gestures (such as one that would allow the iPad to know how the user is pressing the pencil, which could be used for new shortcuts and actions). There is even a rumored price: $130.

New Aluminum Magic Keyboard

The brand’s wireless keyboards would also be about to change. At the end of last year, it was leaked that Apple wanted them to look more like Mac keyboards and that it was working on a new aluminum version with a larger trackpad and USB-C connection. It would therefore be more resistant and robust and would have a premium finish designed to combine with the new iPad Pro.

New iPad Pro OLED

The star of the event will be a new iPad Pro with OLED screen which will come in two sizes (11 and 12.9 inches). This new type of screen would not only allow Apple to show off its colors, but would significantly reduce the weight and dimensions of the device, making it even slimmer and more comfortable to carry.

Furthermore, they would be the ideal way to introduce Apple’s new M3 chip, another display of power and performance to which would be added the move of the front camera from the center to the side, an idea that has worked very well with the tenth generation.

New iPad Air

Although they are not the protagonists, the iPad Air will also have their place at the event and are expected to announce the arrival of miniLED technology (until now used in the Pro) to two, as always, very light models of 10.9 and 12.9 inches. The front camera would follow in the footsteps of the iPad OLED and go to the side, and as icing on the cake we will not have an M3 chip, but an M2.
