When does Baldur’s Gate 3 release on Xbox Series X|S and differences between both consoles

With still no official announcement, Baldur’s Gate 3 is still to be released on Xbox Series X|S. Here’s when the title may launch according to everything announced so far.

Baldur’s Gate 3 released only a few months ago on PC, completely grabbing everyone by surprise and even breaking Steam due to its success. A month later, the PlayStation 5 version was launched, and players on that platform have been jumping into the RPG ever since. But what about Xbox fans? While they’ve been assured that the title will eventually be released, Larian continues to work on the port to make sure that both Xbox consoles are able to run the game smoothly.

Why is Baldur’s Gate 3 not on Xbox Series X|S yet?

As reported by VGC, Larian Studio’s director of publishing Michael Douse took to Twitter to speak about the problems they’ve faced while working on the game for both of Microsofts current consoles, hinting that they may not be able to reach a solution until 2024. “We have quite a few engineers working very hard to do what no other RPG of this scale has achieved: seamless drop-in, drop-out co-op on Series S,” he said. “We hope to have an update by the end of the year.”

According to creative director of the game Swen Vincke, Microsoft has a policy that requires games to have the exact same gameplay features on both Xbox Series X and Series S, meaning they require developers to have “feature parity” between both versions. Games on Series S present lower graphic fidelity and resolution, but with Baldur’s Gate 3 they’ve not been able to make split-screen work as it’s quite demanding on the processing side.

When will Baldur’s Gate 3 be released on Xbox Series X|S?

Up until now, Larian Studios has only revealed that the game is planned to launch on Xbox consoles by the end of the year. However, they recently teased that an official release date could be revealed very soon.

Previously, a leak suggested that the release date was set for December 6, 2023. But Larian Studios denied this leak, saying that this wasn’t the planned date. We’ll have to wait for an official announcement before we’re certain when Xbox players will be able to begin their adventure through the Sword Coast.
