Where and in what region is Pokémon Legends Z-A? Everything we know about the new game in the Pokémon series

Pokémon Legends Z-A takes players to a region that has been familiar to Pokémon Trainers for more than 11 years.

This morning’s Pokémon Presents was a short stream, but it left us with a lot to look forward to from the franchise. And while we’re not done with the much-rumored remakes in the new games section, the Nintendo Switch will still have a new Pokémon game to enjoy. Pokémon Legends Z-A will be the installment that goes all the way to 2025 and aims to continue experimenting within the series, which is always a good thing. But hey, since Legends likes to take place in previous regions, where is it set, what is known about this installment? Although not much, there are some data that we can already gather.

What region and location does Pokémon Legends Z-A take place in?

This new title will take Pokémon players to the familiar Kalos region that debuted on Nintendo 3DS more than 11 years ago in Pokémon X & Y. This region, part of the sixth generation of the franchise, is inspired by France, with all of the iconic locations from that great country.

In the trailer, we tour Lumiose City, one of the cities in the north of the map, which is inspired by the “City of Light,” Paris. Many details have been adapted from the real city to this Pokémon reinterpretation, with the most notorious being the Eiffel Tower-inspired Prism Tower, which also serves as the city’s gym and not just a tourist attraction like its real-life counterpart.

Part of the premise of this trailer is that the game is about an “urban development plan” and “a vision of a beautiful coexistence between humans and Pokémon,” so it is not clear if we are arriving at a time in the past when the city was founded, or if it will be a renewal of the city as such, given its history, to accommodate the coexistence between humans and Pokémon.

While the trailer does not say much, we can see this “construction” of the city that goes from sketches to a reconstruction of the city that seems to use cutting-edge technology to show how this city will be. A part also shows us how Lumiose City is divided and already considers its famous five districts, divided by several avenues.

An important detail that this game will have is that we will not leave the city. While this is implied throughout the trailer, also a publication in the Twitter / X account of Nintendo of America revealed that the game will be developed “entirely within Lumiose City”, so it lowers expectations that we can go through the entire region of Kalos.

What Pokémon will be in the game?

A Pokémon game can’t be a Pokémon game franchise if we don’t have an initial list of pocket monsters that... will we capture? will they help us? will they coexist? There are still a lot of details to be worked out, but at least that list is in the trailer:

  • Pikachu
  • Litleo
  • Pryroar
  • Furfrou (3 formes)
  • Flabebé
  • Klefki
  • Fletchling
  • Dragonair
  • Hawlucha
  • Magikarp
  • Gyarados
  • Hippopotas
  • Arbok
  • Gogoat
  • Emolga
  • Aegislash
  • Krookodile
  • Sandile
  • Sylveon
  • Onix
  • Pinsir
  • Heracross
  • Eevee
  • Bellsprout
  • Talonflame

Pokémon Legends Z-A: Release date and... consoles?

It is still too early to have these details, but it was announced that it would arrive in 2025 and would be planned for the Nintendo Switch. Although the details of the successor to Nintendo’s hybrid console remain as rumors, we could talk about this being the title with which GameFreak says goodbye to this generation of Nintendo consoles.
