Where can I watch ‘The Grinch’: platform, price, and where to find it

Is the holiday season making you a bit annoyed, but you still want to get into the cheer? Why not watch The Grinch and have your heart grow three sizes?

The holidays are a time of cheer and celebration, but if you’re in the camp of those who think christmas decorations in November are a bit much, then you probably feel identified with The Grinch. Maybe just a little bit.

So what better way to destress about these christmas-obsessed Whos that invade every public space ahead of time (in what seems to be earlier every year) than by enjoying some of the Grinch movies to start getting into that mood, while still remaining reasonably grumpy? In 2024, there are three different versions of the Dr. Seuss story that you can enjoy, each a very different experience but all of them enjoyable and highly recomendable.

Below you’ll find where and how to watch each one of them, especially when it comes to finding them on streaming services.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966 animated movie)

The very first adaptation of the Dr. Seuss book was done way back when, and by none other than the legendary Chuck Jones of Looney Tunes fame. This animated film is an absolute classic that everyone can enjoy, and of course it tells the story of the Grinch, a green and mean creature who lives on Mount Crumpit and hates Christmas so much he hatches a plan to steal all of the decorations, gifts, and food that the residents of Whoville were preparing to celebrate.

You can watch this cartoon classic on Hulu, which costs $7.99 a month (or $79.99 for a whole year) in an ad supported plan. You can get a no-ads plan for $17.99 a month, and students can get a subscription with ads for only $1.99 a month.

Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmass (2000 live-action film)

The 2000′s live-action adaptation of the story has the ever delightful Jim Carrey in the starring role of the green mean christmas hating machine. Much more focused on the comedy but still with all of the heart and wackyness of the original story, this is the one many millennials grew up with and one of the more beloved and popular ones.

If you want to watch Jim Carrey in a full green furry suit learning about the true meaning of christmas, you unfortunately can only find it online to rent for $3.99 or to buy for $14.99. It is available in that format on Apple TV, Google Play Movies & TV, Amazon Prime Video, and Fandango at Home.

The Grinch (2018 animated film)

The latest version of the story was released only a few years ago in 2018, when Illumination got Benedict Cumberbatch to voice the green monster. This version of the story deviates the most from the original book by Dr. Seuss, with The Grinch causing Cindy Lou Who to trap Santa Claus in an effort to help her mother, but instead she gets The Grinch himself in the middle of his nefarious plans.

If you want to watch this version, you can do so on Peacock with a free subscription or by subscribing for $7.99 a month (or $79.99 for a whole year). It is also available to rent for $3.99 on Apple TV, Google Play Movies & TV, Amazon Prime Video, and Fandango at Home.
