Dune
Where does ‘Dune: Prophecy’ fit into the saga’s timeline?
The forthcoming Dune spin-off series will take us back in time to learn about the origins of the Bene Gesserit order and their plans for Arrakis.
‘Dune: Prophecy’, the upcoming TV spin-off of the Dune universe that has captivated fans since Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel, is set to expand on the beloved sci-fi saga. But where exactly does it fit into the series’ complicated timeline? Understanding this placement can help longtime fans and newcomers navigate the vast storylines of the desert planet of Arrakis.
Dune: Prophecy’s Place in the Series’ Timeline
Unlike the main series, which focuses on the political and environmental struggles on the desert planet of Arrakis, Dune: Prophecy is expected to delve deeper into the religious and prophetic elements of the universe. Previously known as ‘Dune: The Sisterhood’, the story of ‘Prophecy’ is directly linked to the Denis Villeneuve films.
Dune: Prophecy will take place 10,000 years before the rise of Paul Atreides, and will focus on the Harkonnen sisters as they form the order known as the Bene Gesserit, along with their rise to power through politics and manipulation of the great houses of the Empire throughout the universe. By focusing on an earlier period in the Dune timeline, Dune: Prophecy promises to offer insight into the foundations of the Empire and the Bene Gesserit’s long-term plans for Arrakis, as well as the emergence of the Kwisatz Haderach, the superhuman being at the center of the original saga.
Who is in the Dune: Prophecy cast?
Dune: Prophecy has had a few rumblings surrounding its cast, as production has extended for longer than expected. As a result, certain actors had to leave the project, with others coming in to take their place. Emily Watson and Olivia Williams star as sisters Valya and Tula Harkonnen, respectively. They’ll be joined by Mark Strong as Emperor Javicco Corrino, Travis Fimmel as Desmond Hart, Jodhi May (previously Indira Varma) as Natalya, Camilla Beeput as Reverend Mother Dorotea, Sarah Lam as Hagal Truthsayer, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina as Princess Ynez, Josh Heuston as Constantine, Chloe Lea as Lila, Jade Anouka as Sister Theodosia, Faoileann Cunningham as Sister Jen, Aoife Hinds as Sister Emeline, Chris Mason as Keiran Atreides, Shalom Brune-Franklin as Mikaela, Flora Montgomery as Truthsayer Vera, Tessa Bonham Jones as Lady Shannon, and Laura Howard as Orla Richese.
Meanwhile, Dune: Prophecy is scheduled to premiere on HBO on November 15, 2024.
