Where in the timeline does ‘The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim’ take place?
The return to Middle Earth to movie theaters will take fans hundreds of years before the original trilogy, to witness the epic of Helm Hammerhand.
One of the most attractive releases of 2024 will undoubtedly be ‘The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim’. For the biggest fans of the Tolkien universe, perhaps the wait for the premiere of the new film can be quite long. Coming to theaters on Thursday, December 5, the Peter Jackson version of the Tolkien universe is set to give fans a return to Middle-Earth through one of the most epic legends of the fantasy world.
The new installment of The Lord of the Rings will present a main plot that focuses on the conflict between Helm and Wulf’s Dunlending army, who thirsts for revenge after the death of his father, Freca. During its 2 hours and 14 minutes of duration, it will take viewers to emblematic places in the legendary universe of J.R.R. Tolkien. Among others, Helm’s Deep stands out, which again will play a crucial role in the story.
Where is it located in the chronology of The Lord of the Rings
Since the original novel written by J. R. R. Tolkien and published in 1954, numerous audiovisual works have emerged. ‘The Fellowship of the Ring’ (2001), ‘The Two Towers’ (2002), and ‘The Rings of Power’ (2024) are some examples but we must know where in the chronology of the Tolkien universe it is located. Well, ‘The War of the Rohirrim’ happened 261 years before the Battle of Minas Tirith. Exactly 183 years before the beginning of The Lord of the Rings.
The story of the conflict between Helm and Wulf’s troops, which is told in ‘The War of the Rohirrim,’ is not found directly in The Lord of the Rings. However, it is documented in other texts by the British writer, in the appendices. If you want to locate it you must follow the following steps: Volume III » Appendices » Appendix A: Annals of the Kings and Rulers » II The House of Eorl.
