Who are Lady Deadpool and Dafne Keen, the latest surprises of Deadpool 3
The latest trailer for ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ has given us a good look at Lady Deadpool, as well as of a surprise returning character that shakes up what everyone expected of the film.
With only a week to go before the release of ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ in theaters around the world, the final trailer for the movie has been unleashed upon expecting fans, and hype is officially through the roof. This is of course because the latest teaser gives us plenty of good looks at what the movie is actually about, with a more somber tone than the previous ones, but also because we finally get two full glimpses of both Lady Deadpool, and of Dafne Keen returning to Marvel movies in a surprise appearance.
Lady Deadpool and X-23/Laura to appear in ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’
The entire trailer sees both Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine bearing their thoughts and feelings about themselves out in the wild, in what is a much darker and emotional look at what many otherwise expected to be a high-paced adrenaline-filled comedy action romp. “In my world… You’re well regarded,” says the Merc with a Mouth hesitantly. “You were an X-Man. F*uck that, you were THE X-Man. Wolverine. He was a hero in my world.”
Of course, we know that this version of the mutant has a had an even rougher life than the previous ones we’ve seen in live-action. “Yeah well, he aint shit in mine,” says Jackman, just as we’re shown footage of 2017′s Logan, specifically Dafne Keen’s young Laura, who fans better recognized as X-23.
He continues: “Whoever you think I am, you’ve got the wrong guy.” But instead of cutting back to Deadpool, the trailer cuts to Keen, now grown up, seemingly returning to her role as the “daughter” of Logan that was the central focus of the mutant’s last movie. Surprisingly, she speaks, and reveals that “You were always the wrong guy. ‘Til you weren’t.”
Is this the very same character that was shown surviving at the end of the previous Wolverine movie? All signs seem to point towards this being the case, but nothing has been revealed so far. Keen’s appearance in the movie is a definitive surprise, as it hadn’t been revealed or leaked thus far, which seems to confirm reports that previous trailer had only focused on the first 30 minutes of the movie.
For those who aren’t aware of her, X-23 is a Marvel character that is often considered a “daughter” (or at least, successor) to Wolverine as she’s regularly presented as an altered clone of Logan. Her powers are essentially the same, being able to regenerate quickly and having heightened senses that allow her to take on enemies with bestial-like agility. In some instances she’s shown to have been similarly altered through infusing adamantium with her skeleton, giving her metal claws, but just like Logan she’s able to protrude a pair of claws from her hands at will, although she is also capable of producing claws through her feet.
In the comics, X-23 has been active for many years now, and has even officially held the title of “Wolverine” in several storylines. Her appearance is definitely a surprise, as it may hint at things to come in the future of the MCU.
What about Lady Deadpool’s full reveal?
Just as many expected, and to the dissappointment of many, Lady Deadpool has now been shown in full in the latest trailer, but her face is completely covered-up with a Deadpool mask. This was expected by many as that has always been her design in the comics, both in her appearances as part of the “Deadpool Corps” and in other times she shows up by herself.
The mane of blonde hair shown in previous teasers turned out to be originating from below her mask, as it flows from the top of her head and down her shoulders, but no hint of who’s behind the mask was actually shown. We’ll have to wait until Deadpool and Wolverine arrives in theaters on Friday, July 26, to figure out if she’s played by Blake Lively, Taylor Swift, or someone else entirely.
