Who is John Godolkin in Gen V, The Boys spin-off?

This character is important to the development of the series, which will premiere on Prime Video next September 29.

¿Quién es John Godolkin en Gen V, el spin off de The Boys?

The premiere of Gen V, a spin-off of The Boys, is fast approaching and will focus on introducing the next generation of superheroes who will work for Vought International and become what Homelander and company are. To this end, the boys attend Godolkin University, an academic center where they are trained to become superheroes.

For this, we must consider the name of the millionaire John Godolkin, an important man in this production. Known to readers of the comic book The Boys, he is the benefactor of the university that bears his name, but at the same time, he is one of the most evil characters that exist in this universe, especially because he is the leader of the group G-Men.

John Godolkin is a parody of Professor Xavier, leader of a group called the G-Men (a spoof of the X-Men), who instead of recruiting children with powers to become superheroes in the future, kidnaps them for other purposes.

G-Men, the group that may appear in Gen V

This X-Men parody group, founded in 1984 and led by John Godolkin, was introduced in the arc We Gotta Go Now, part of the comic The Boys. In this debut, this group was recognized as an evil organization with several crimes committed, which they boast about throughout their participation in the comic books.

The G-Men are the third most important group for Vought International after The Seven and Payback. Its members are:

  • Five-Oh
  • Silver Kincaid
  • Nubia
  • Groundhawk
  • Critter
  • The Devine
  • O’Hero

All of these superheroes have different abilities that they display in the comic. In addition, it is stated that the G-Men had one rule, which was to protect their secrets and interests, i.e. not to reveal their origin, their relationship with Compound V, and their closeness to John Godolkin.

John Godolkin continued to create more G-Men-like teams

As a millionaire, John Godolkin used his money and power to kidnap more children, train them, and create more teams with them as variations of the G-Men, though of lesser importance, including:

  • G-Force
  • G-Style
  • G-Coast
  • G-Wiz
  • G-Nomdas
  • G-Britz

And when John Godolkin is met, the reader learns that he is working on a new team called Pre-Wiz, made up of kids who will be the new G-Wiz in the future.

The G-Men inspired Gen V

In 2020, Eric Kripke, showrunner of The Boys, confirmed in an interview with The Wrap that the X-Men parody group was a bit of an influence on the series Gen V. Kripke emphasized that “part of the G-Men is there’s sort of an educational, college experience,” and that they used that as a starting point. “We just used that as a jumping-off point, kind of similar to ‘The Boys,’ where we sort of take an initial notion and then run with it in our own weird direction.”

The Gen V series will take place between Seasons 3 and 4 of the series, so we will meet new characters who are part of the groups created by millionaire John Godolkin or who will be members of the G-Men and their derivatives in the future.

And so important is John Godolkin in the Gen V series that the production of the series launched an official website for the university that bears his name, including its curriculum, quotes from star alumni such as Queen Maeve, A-Train, and The Deep, among others.

Gen V will premiere on the Amazon Prime Video platform on September 29.
