Who is Vermithor the Dragon from ‘House of the Dragon’ and his Rider
‘House of the Dragon’ is preparing for the resurgence of one of the most impactful dragons of George R.R. Martin’s works, as the Bronze Fury is set to get a new rider.
The second season of ‘House of the Dragon’ continues to progress, and there are many dragons that have been shown more and more in the TV adaptation of the work of George R.R. Martin. The most imposing so far is Vhagar, belonging to Aemond Targaryen and of colossal size; but Meleyes, Rhaenys’s dragon, has also had an enormous impact although with a devastating end. There are still dragons to discover in ‘House of the Dragon’, and one of them is Vermithor, which we were already able to see in the first season thanks to a visit from Daemon Targaryen, and it is one of the most solemn and historic dragons of the entire Targaryen dynasty.
Who is Vermithor, one of the most imposing dragons in ‘The House of the Dragon’
Known as the Bronze Fury, Vermithor was king Jaehaerys I Targaryen’s dragon, considered the best king thanks to a reign of enormous duration which there was no internal tension, as he stood out for his pacifism and enormous prosperity. Always at Jaehaerys’ side until the moment of his death, Vermithor did not allow himself to be ridden by anyone after and remained hidden in a cave in Dragonmount for decades.
At the time of the series, Vermithor stands out for being an elderly and very powerful male dragon, with bronze and cinnamon-colored scales and eyes that are described in the book as pools of molten bronze. Only Vhagar is older than Vermithor, lacking the necessary knowledge about the age of another dragon known as Cannibal. Vermithor had a flame of burning power, and with Jaehaerys he became accustomed to men and came to tolerate their presence.
Who is Vermithor’s new rider in ‘The House of the Dragon’
After the death of Rhaenys, the Blacks have been left at a disadvantage and need new allies capable of being dragon riders, and one of them is Hugh Hammer, a character that has been shown to us little by little throughout the last few episodes, and although his presence seemed unconnected, his impact on the story will not be small. He is one of the dragonseeds, of Targaryen lineage but born as a bastard. These seeds are invited to try to tame the riderless dragons, and Hugh Hammer manages to get hold of Vermithor.
What awaits Hugh Hammer in ‘House of the Dragon’? One of the most promising character developments of the HBO series and one of the most outstanding dragons of all we have met.
