Why does Sauron change faces in ‘The Rings of Power’ season 2?

Season 2 of ‘The Rings of Power’ brings with it some pretty significant changes to Sauron, the Dark Lord of Middle-Earth.

The second season of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ is one of the biggest premieres of the year on television, a moment of enormous importance for the great Prime Video project after season 1 disappointed many followers. Sauron, the Dark Lord, is the center of a series that becomes increasingly darker, and in which many wonder why Sauron has changed his face and form.

Sauron, the ruthless figure who wants to bring absolute chaos to Middle-earth, and who in the eighth and final episode of the first season of ‘The Rings of Power’ was revealed to us to have hidden under the guise of Halbrand, the supposed southerner whom Galadriel met during the shipwreck on Belegaer. Now, after having been discovered, the right hand of Morgoth, the first Dark Lord, has reappeared, changing form and continuing to develop his plan to dominate them all.

Sauron and his new form in ‘The Rings of Power’

The Dark Lord is now Annatar, a key figure in the mythology of J.R.R. Tolkien, one of the forms assumed by Sauron who taught the elves to create the rings, the most powerful objects in all of Middle Earth. Is there any problem or controversy surrounding this change? Only on an aesthetic level, and that is that the face of Charlie Vickers remains the same, so the change to Annatar is not as forceful and different as some might expect.
