Why James Gunn’s Superman and Batman won’t be shown at SDCC 2024
The 2024 San Diego Comic-Con is starting soon, but DC Studios won’t be there to show off everything they have coming in the next few years.
San Diego Comic-Con 2024 is fast approaching, and while fans of all kinds of communities are getting ready to hear the latest news about their favorite series, movies, franchises and more, it appears like DC Studios isn’t going to be one of those, even when they have a lot on their plate right now.
With James Gunn and Peter Safran working diligently on their new DC Cinematic Universe, which will bring with it brand new versions of the beloved heroes of the comics like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and more, it appears as if the ones in charge are choosing to work on said projects instead of feeding the hype beast that is SDCC. Or at least, that is exactly what James Gunn said a few months ago while getting ready to begin filming Superman.
With his characteristic candor, Gunn has been adamant about preferring to put the nose to the grindstone to build up the new DCU, and working on the production and pre-production of everything they’ve already greenlit. As such, it’s very possible that DC Studios is skipping the convention entirely, as they haven’t actually made an announcement regarding their presence in Hall H this year.
At the time of writing, Superman has just finished a six-week period of filming in Cleveland, but now they’re moving locations to continue work on the 2025 rebirth of the Man of Steel. However, there are still plenty of other projects that could be getting news at some point throughout 2024. Here’s everything they have in production at the moment:
