WoW Remix Mists of Pandaria Aims to Bring Users Back to Experience One of the Most Popular Expansions
Nearly 12 years after its release, Mists of Pandaria is returning to World of Warcraft in a very unique way.
Mists of Pandaria is back in World of Warcraft. And no, it’s not that WoW Classic skipped the highly anticipated Cataclysm, but as part of Dragonflight’s final activities leading up to The War Within. And it is that this expansion, originally released in 2012, is back today as part of the WoW Remix event.
To learn more about this interpretation of one of the most popular expansions in World of Warcraft history, we spoke with Brian Dowling, Senior Game Designer, and Ciji Bambrick, Senior Test Analyst, to get the details behind this remix that will allow us to play (and in some cases, relive) this expansion more quickly.
How WoW Remix came to be and how it differs from expansions and other content
One of the first questions was how WoW Remix came to be. According to Bambrick, the idea behind the content was to give players something to do in the time between Dragonflight and The War Within: “The idea of Wow Remix is to take existing content and refresh it with new gameplay systems. We thought about the features that we wanted to remix, new gameplay, having an accelerated level up, having this infinite power. We also thought about what expansions had good content that could be remixed, and we wanted players to be able to ride their dragons, and Pandaria has beautiful landscapes.
On the other hand, we also asked what is the real difference with the upcoming expansions, and according to its managers, it is the acceleration. “Acceleration is something that takes something that takes two years and does it in three months, which gives it a different feel. No matter what kind of content you want to do, a lot of it will be available right out of the box. If you want a story-based experience, that will be available, if you want hard group content, you can do the heroic dungeons starting at level 10. We want to experiment and we want to hear what players think,” Dowling said.
Meanwhile, Bambrick mentioned that veteran players will notice some differences, such as “a new set of introductory missions that introduce the event of Dragonflight. Some of those quests involve riding dragons, and there are these little bazaars in the towns.
WoW Remix Mists of Pandaria is available today, May 16, and will run for three months, ending sometime in August.
