‘X-Men: From The Ashes’: Cyclops and Rogue are leading opposing mutant sides in a new comic line

The end of Krakoa brings the beginning of a new mutant era in Marvel’s latest X-Men comics, in which two sides of mutants are in an uneasy alliance… for now.

The new mutant universe of Marvel, known as ‘X-Men: From the Ashes’, is a title that refers to the end of the era of Krakoa. During this new era - which will take place in the ‘X-Men’, ‘Uncanny X-Men’ and ‘Exceptional X-Men’ comic lines - two mutants will take on the role of leadership typically claimed by Charles Xavier and Erik Magnus Lehnsherr: Cyclops and Rogue, each with their own team. On this occasion though, their ideologies are not as extremely opposite as those of Professor X and Magneto.

These are the new mutant ideologies of ‘X-Men: From the Ashes’

Through the first issues of ‘X-Men’ and ‘UncannyX-Men’ we’ve been shown the two ways in which mutants are dealing with the end of Krakoa, their island nation, and how they’re being re-introduced to the rest of humanity. Two new leaders are created with different ideas, leaving behind those in which everyone agreed to have common agendas, and both Cyclops and Rogue have their own vision of how to face the future of the species that has the X gene.

On the one hand, and although it does not match Magneto’s evil, Cyclops believes that the mutant species must be above the human species, and while he shares Charles Xavier’s ideas of peaceful coexistence, his allied group - Psylocke, Juggernaut, Magik, Kid Omega, and Temper - represents an entire paramilitary force. They have no say in resorting to whatever is necessary - including violence - to rescue mutants in danger, even if that means coming into conflict with humans.

On the other hand, you have Rogue, who faithfully follows Xavier’s pacifist ideas. She believes, like her predecessor, that there must be a group of heroic mutants who fight for the common good, regardless of whether they are mutants or humans, regardless of whether they are victims of injustice or discrimination. He continues to pursue the professor’s dream, and due to her youth, she suffers from considerable idealism.

At the moment, with both series already on sale, it seems that both sides are in communication and cooperating peacefully, but it is surely a matter of time before everything goes wrong and conflicts between mutants begin.
