Xbox 360 gets one final update after the closure of its Marketplace: here’s what changed
The Xbox 360 has said goodbye to its digital store, and with that come some changes to the Xbox Live Store and its interface.
On July 29, 2024, the Xbox Live Marketplace closed its doors after practically twenty years in operation. This permanent closure has brought with it an unforeseen consequence: Microsoft has completely renewed the console interface, making it much simpler and removing any tabs relating to online connectivity that have been lost.
This is how the Xbox 360 interface has changed after the permanent closure of its digital storefront
The shut down of the legendary Xbox Live Marketplace took effect around 8 PM EST on 07/29/2024. After this moment, the Xbox 360 console no longer has access to this digital store, hence you cannot purchase any new content through it.
The Xbox 360 console also lost several tabs in its interface related to online capabilities. As you can see in this comparison image of the before and after, the options for Bing search engine, Games, Films, and TV and Apps are now gone.
Just because the “Games” tab has disappeared does not mean that we cannot play on our Xbox 360; of course, titles in physical format will continue to work, and the digital games that we have purchased and downloaded can also be played without problems. The removal of this particular tab is part of the closure of the Xbox Live Marketplace, so digital games on this console will no longer be able to be purchased from this store.
It’s important to remember that players can still re-download all the content previously acquired through the download history associated with their Xbox Live account. To do this you need to go to Settings, Account, and then Download History.
Although Microsoft assured users that this option will continue to be available in the medium term, the safe thing to do is to make a backup as soon as possible of all our already purchased content by downloading it so you have it locally in case there is a problem in the future.
Does the change in the Xbox 360 interface affect other services such as online gaming and cloud saves?
This change to the console interface does not affect other services such as cloud saves that allow us to recover our progress by playing on different consoles or the ability to play online.
Other functionalities such as the Achievements are not lost either., and we can continue obtaining them to continue increasing our gamerscore.
