Xbox Game Pass announces major price increases and changes for the service

We’ve all seen the signs pop up throughout the years but still hoped it never happened. But now, Xbox Game Pass has announced that they’re making big changes to the service, including price increases and a new tier that locks out whoever doesn’t pay up out of enjoying day-one releases.

For years Xbox Game Pass has been one of the most impressive subscription services for gaming, both on console and PC (as well as their surprisingly good Cloud streaming). Recently, Microsoft even got rid of Xbox Live Gold and released Xbox Game Pass Core, bringing all of its online gaming services under the same brand. This time, however, there are many more changes coming to the subscription, which you’ll be able to find below.

Everything changing in Xbox Game Pass

Starting July 10, 2024, the changes below will go into effect for any new members of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Xbox Game Pass Core, and PC Game Pass. However, those that are already subscribed with automatic payment renewal (or with subscription time still to expire) will be able to continue enjoying the service as it’s worked up until this date.

  • Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is raising its price from $14.99 a month to $19.99 a month
  • PC Game Pass is raising its price from $9.99 a month to $11.99 a month
  • Xbox Game Pass Core is raising its 12-month price from $59.99 to $74.99, but monthly price remains at $9.99
  • Price increases are global and dependent on your region
  • Xbox Game Pass for Console will no longer be available for new users
  • A new tier called “Xbox Game Pass Standard” will become available for $14.99 a month, which will include online multiplayer access for console and a limited library of games. This doesn’t include Xbox Cloud Gaming, or day-one game releases.
  • Users will no longer be able to stack Xbox Game Pass for Console subscription time through pre-paid cards over 13 months.
  • All price changes to take place on September 12, 2024
