Xbox Game Pass is updating with new plans but with price increases
New Essential, Premium, and Ultimate plans offer players more choices.
It has been eight years since Xbox launched Game Pass. The service has served as a way to give gamers a new option for playing in the digital world. Although the idea behind the service was to offer low-cost access to multiple games, times have changed, and like other streaming services based on the same promise, Xbox Game Pass has evolved, accompanied by a price increase.
Through a post on Xbox Wire, the official Xbox blog, it has been announced that Game Pass plans have been updated “based on how players play.” There will now be three new tiers, including Essential, Premium, and Ultimate, with the first two replacing Core and Standard, respectively.
A brand new Ultimate Tier
Now, while Core and Standard will maintain their prices, at $9.99 and $14.99 per month, respectively, Ultimate will see the largest increase. This tier of Game Pass will see a 50% increase, jumping from $19.99 to $29.99, an annual increase of $120, or about $360 per year. It should be noted that August 2024 was when the service had its last price increase, adding more content to the service.
Similarly, this price increase is also accompanied by improvements in quality. “Ultimate has been upgraded for players who want the best of everything. We’re rolling out our most expansive upgrade yet, including more day one games than ever before, Fortnite Crew & Ubisoft+ Classics for the first time ever, enhanced Xbox Cloud Gaming streaming quality up to 1440p, Rewards with Xbox, and more. Now players can have it all.” Starting November 18, Fortnite Crew will be included in Ultimate, with access to the Fortnite Battle Pass, 1,000 V-Bucks each month, and more. Today, Ubisoft+ Classics joins Ultimate, offering access to a curated selection of Ubisoft games playable on console, PC, and cloud.
