Xbox Game Pass will be available at a reduced price starting today, all thanks to this change in Call of Duty

The 23% price cut follows comments by CEO Asha Sharma about rising subscription costs

Update:

The remarks by the new Xbox CEO, Asha Sharma, that “Game Pass has become too expensive for players” have taken effect. Starting today, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC subscribers will see a slight relief for their wallets, as Xbox has reduced the service’s price by 23%, though at the cost of a change to Call of Duty.

This price cut for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass was announced via Xbox Wire. “Starting today, Game Pass Ultimate drops from $29.99 to $22.99 a month. PC Game Pass will also drop from $16.49 to $13.99 a month.”

There’s a reason behind this price adjustment: starting this year, upcoming Call of Duty titles will no longer be Day 1 releases on the service, a feature that was previously included in these tiers. However, this does not mean that Activision’s major franchise will disappear from the service, as it is specified that “New Call of Duty games will be added to Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass during the following holiday season (about a year later), while existing Call of Duty titles already in the library will continue to be available.”

The adjustment comes after a price hike in October of last year, when the Ultimate service went from $19.99 to $29.99 and PC Game Pass increased from $11.99 to $16.49. Although it isn’t a complete return to the original price, it brings the price a bit closer to what we had before—though with a twist that many Call of Duty fans surely didn’t expect. The Xbox statement concludes by noting that “while there isn’t a single model that’s best for everyone, this change responds to a lot of feedback we’ve gotten so far.”
