Xbox is already talking about its next-gen consoles, calling them “the biggest technological leap ever in a generation”
Internal documents from Xbox president Sarah Bond have revealed that Microsoft is ready to move on to a new generation of consoles.
It seems like the current generation of consoles is already coming to an end: Microsoft is already moving forward with developing of a next generation console, and they’re touting it’s a massive technological leap.
The news was revealed through an internal email from Xbox president Sarah Bond (via Windows Central), which has since been verified by Microsoft themselves. In the document, Bond states that “We are moving full speed ahead on our next generation hardware, focused on delivering the biggest technological leap ever in a generation.”
The email goes on to talk about Microsoft’s innovations in gaming AI, and while no details about what we can expect from this new console have been revealed, it seems like it would be a safe bet to assume that the company is looking to implement artificial intelligence in some form. After all, Bond herself reveals in the same email that they " are innovating in Gaming AI, focused on delivering player-first, developer-first value for discovery, engagement, and creator velocity.”
The future of Xbox is looking back at past games
Alongside this quick confirmation of new technology to come to Xbox consoles, this is the same document that revealed that they have assembled a new team focused on game preservation. This team will work on expanding backwards compatibility to even more titles in the Xbox catalog, something that comes as great news for all of us still waiting on some hidden gems to be brought back from previous generations.
While this news might seem quite accelerated, the current generation of consoles is quickly approaching its mid-life, at least when compared to previous iterations. Both the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 launched in 2020, which means that next year will be their 5th anniversary. Before it, The Xbox One and PS4 era lasted nearly 8 years, with most generations lasting for similar periods of time.
