Xbox ROG Ally and Ally X: preorders to open on August at Gamescom

Microsoft will enter handheld gaming in alliance with ASUS, with Game Pass-ready devices launching this fall.

Microsoft is officially stepping into the handheld market, and according to a report from Dealabs, the preorder availability for the ROG Ally and Ally X will go live on August 20, during its Xbox’s Gamescom 2025 presentation. Developed in partnership with ASUS, both consoles run on Windows 11, delivering portable access to Xbox Game Pass, Steam, Epic Games Store, Battle.net, and more.

Specs and estimated U.S. pricing

Initial listings were shown in Euros due to their European debut at Gamescom, but here’s the projected U.S. breakdown:

  • ROG Ally X

Both feature a 7-inch 1080p 120Hz display, support Xbox Play Anywhere, and access to full PC storefronts.

Hands-on games at Gamescom

Attendees at Xbox’s booth in Cologne can demo the handhelds with several titles, including:

  • Hollow Knight: Silksong
  • Sea of Thieves
  • Roblox
  • Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4

Preorders will go live during Xbox’s August 20 showcase, airing at 6am PT / 9am ET. U.S. retailer details will be announced during the stream.

  • Launch regions include the U.S., Mexico, and select European countries.
