Xbox teases major Halo news for October: HaloWC 2025 will be the stage for what’s next
With rumors swirling about a PS5 and Switch 2 release, Unreal Engine 5, and a franchise reboot, all eyes are on Seattle this fall.

Halo Studios —formerly 343 Industries—, is officially setting the stage for a major reveal at the Halo World Championship 2025, taking place October 24–26 in Seattle. In their latest Halo Waypoint blog, the studio confirmed that it will “continue the conversation” started last year with Project Foundry, the Unreal Engine 5-powered initiative that marked a new era for the franchise.
What’s being teased?
While the studio hasn’t confirmed specifics, the timing and tone of the announcement suggest something big. Here’s what’s fueling the speculation:
- Unreal Engine 5: Halo Studios is now fully committed to UE5, moving away from the Slipspace engine used in Halo Infinite. The shift was first teased in 2024’s A New Dawn trailer.
- Multi-platform rumors: Reports suggest that Halo: The Master Chief Collection or even a Halo: Combat Evolved remake could be coming to PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2, marking a historic first for the franchise.
- Multiple projects in development: Halo Studios continues to emphasize “multiple projects” rather than a single sequel, hinting at a broader strategy that could include remakes, spin-offs, or even genre experimentation.
- 25th anniversary in 2026: With Xbox and Halo both turning 25 next year, fans suspect that a major release—possibly a reimagined Combat Evolved—is being lined up for the celebration.
Why HaloWC 2025 matters
The Halo World Championship has become more than just an esports event—it’s now the franchise’s de facto showcase. Last year’s event revealed the studio’s rebrand and UE5 transition. This year, the stakes are even higher. As Halo Studios put it:
“Speculation is always fun, but if you want the official scoop on what Halo Studios has been working on, you won’t want to miss this year’s Halo World Championship.”
Whether it’s a Halo: Combat Evolved remake, a new mainline entry, or a multi-platform expansion, October’s reveal could redefine the future of Xbox’s most iconic franchise. And with Halo Infinite seen as the “last remnant” of the old development model, this next chapter may be the most important yet.
