Xbox X Series and Xbox Game Pass prices increase

Microsoft announces a price increase for its two main products: console and subscription. It will be implemented very soon.

Phil Spencer warned some time ago that he did not know if Microsoft could keep the price of its products for much longer, and that time has come, as the company has announced an increase in the Xbox X Series and Xbox Game Pass.

“We’ve held on our prices for consoles for many years and have adjusted the prices to reflect the competitive conditions in each market,” said Kari Perez, the brand’s communications leader, in an official statement to The Verge.

Thus, the price of the Xbox Series X will increase in several markets, except for the United States, Japan, Chile, Brazil and Colombia, starting August 1. Meanwhile, the price of the Xbox Series S will remain at $299.99, while the Carbon Black model announced at the last Xbox Showcase will reach $349.

As we said, Phil Spencer also did not guarantee that the price of Xbox Game Pass could be maintained, and indeed ... it was not possible. Thus, the price of both subscription options will also increase from next July 6. Specifically, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will go from $14.99 to $16.99 for its monthly option, while the Xbox Game Pass subscription in its more modest version will go from $9.99 to $10.99, while maintaining the price of the PC subscription.

Microsoft has specified that these increases will not be applied if you currently have an active membership and will only be applied when you renew your subscription. Interestingly, there are some countries where this increase will not apply, such as Norway, Chile, Denmark, Switzerland, and Saudi Arabia.

This is the first time Microsoft has raised the price of Xbox Game Pass since the service launched in 2017. “These Game Pass price adjustments are not related to the Activision Blizzard deal, and are intended to match local market conditions,” Perez stressed.
