YouTube reveals new Partner Program requirements focused on beating Twitch

Twitch is getting more and more competition, with YouTube now revealing its new Partner Program prerequisites that make it easier for creators to earn money.

The internet has opened the gates for hordes of users that were looking for a completely different kind of job. Content creation, as the practice of sharing all kinds of media content is commonly known, is in its best moment not in small part thanks to YouTube. And while it’s been the preferred platform for many creators to share their stuff and make money online, it had been lacking a bit when it came to streaming.

Well, it seems like they know this and are now going for that market as well. Seemingly taking aim at Twitch’s Affiliate Program, which for many years has been the most user friendly way for streamers to earn money, YouTube has shared an updated list of prerequisites that’ll make it easier for everyone to get in.

If you want to make money in YouTube through streaming, users have to complete a list of goals to qualify for the YouTube Partner Program. This is still true, but as of June 13, 2023, it has become a much less monumental task to do so.

YouTube’s new Partner Program requirements

Through their official blog, the Google-owned company shared their updated requirements for its Partner Program specifically catered for their streaming-focused users. If you want to become a Partner, this is what you need now:

  • 500 subscribers
  • 3 valid public uploads
  • 3,000 valid public watch hours in the last year or 3M valid public Shorts views in the last 90 days

By reaching this goals you’ll unlock access to Channel memberships, SuperChats, SuperStickers, Super Thanks, and the ability to promote your own products through YouTube Shopping, all of these being monetization features that’ll earn you money almost directly. However, you will not earn ad revenue from whatever ads are shown and watched during your streams. For that you’ll still have to apply for the full YouTube Partner Program, which has higher prerequisites.
