Matt Reeves
The Batman debuts with box office records, has it surpassed its previous films?
Matt Reeves' film is consolidating as a real blockbuster not only in the United States, but also in the rest of the world, with records in the franchise.
The Batman has arrived in theaters, ready to smash all existing records for The Dark Knight. Having completed its first weekend at the box office, it is now time to see how it has performed commercially. During this time, Matt Reeves' latest film reached the #1 spot in 73 of the 74 territories in which it was released this March 4. In total, that's more than $248.5 million grossed in its first weekend alone. The best opening ever for a Batman origin film.
The Batman debuts as the best weekend and best international release of 2022.
The information, according to Collider, is now in the Box Office Mojo database. In just three full days, Matt Reeves' film has accumulated no less than $128,500,000 in the domestic market; the remaining $120 million came from other territories.
With these figures, The Batman is already, so far, the film with the best opening weekend of 2022 and the best opening of the year for the film industry. This is a true success for Warner Bros. scoring its best opening in the Pandemic Era, as well as being its best weekend since 2016.
Smash hit in the U.S.; success for Matt Reeves, Warner Bros. and Batman
If we look only at the United States, this is one of only two film productions that managed to surpass $100 million in its first weekend since December 2019 (before the pandemic began). The other film that was able to achieve this is Spider-Man: No Way Home with its magnificent $121.9 million in its first weekend (currently over $786 million in North America alone).
Equally remarkable is this debut for the Batman figure in particular. It is not only a Matt Reeves film's best box office performance but establishes itself as the third-best weekend ever for an individual Batman film; the best opening for an origin film for the character.
The Batman is now available in theaters.
