Elden Ring reaches 12 million units sold in two weeks

Bandai Namco Entertainment confirms this distribution record for both the Japanese publisher and the FromSoftware studio. A mainstream success.

Update:
Elden Ring reaches 12 million units sold in two weeks

Bandai Namco Entertainment has confirmed that Elden Ring has surpassed 12 million units sold worldwide; taking into account both physical and digital distribution on all platforms. FromSoftware's acclaimed title, for many the consummation of the creative Hidetaka Miyazaki, ratifies with this its status as a mainstream video game and seals its name in the gaming history not only for its scores, but also for its commercial success.

Available since last February 25, Elden Ring has spent its first weeks of release above expectations. Bandai Namco told its investors last November that they expected to sell 4 million units of the game by the end of the current fiscal quarter, on March 31, 2022. That forecast has been tripled in less than three weeks (data up to March 14). Of the total amount, one million units correspond to the Japanese market.

FromSoftware president and CEO Hidetaka Miyazaki, along with Bandai Namco president and CEO Yasuo Miyakawa, have celebrated the information. "It's amazing to see how many people have played Elden Ring. I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart on behalf of the entire development team [...] We hope that players will enjoy a high level of freedom as they venture through its vast world, explore its many secrets and face its many threats. Thank you for your continued support," said Miyazaki.

Yasuo Miyakawa, for his part, adds: “I would like to use this opportunity to give my thanks to all our fans who have brought "ELDEN RING" into their gaming life. I am very proud to have been involved in bringing such a wonderful and fantastic game to life with FromSoftware, under the guidance of Director Miyazaki, and with George R. R. Martin.”

Will it surpass the total sales of Bloodborne, Sekiro and Dark Souls 3?

The question many may be asking now is whether Elden Ring will be able to outsell single-handedly Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, FromSoftware's latest big projects. According to the latest official data, Bloodborne reached 2 million units sold; Dark Souls 3 distributed 10 million units, while Sekiro did the same with 5 million units. In total, 17 million copies altogether.

Elden Ring is now available on PS5, PS4, Xbox X|S Series, Xbox One and PC.
