Update:
Why did Fortnite removed building in the new season?

Fortnite Season 2 Chapter 3 started this past Sunday, March 20, 2022. However, its launch has been very peculiar, as you can't build in the game. Just below we tell you why you can't build in Fortnite at the start of this new season.

Why can't you build in Fortnite Season 2?

The story trailer for Fortnite Season 2 Chapter 3 (which you can see just below the first paragraph of this news) shows us the IO, the Imagined Orders, invading the island in order to take it away from The Seven.

From minute 1:05, we see Dr. Slone, the visible head of the Imagined Orders, make an appearance. We see her carrying a device that erases all constructions at a stroke. In other words: you can't build for the game's story. It's not a bug; it's intentional.

During the first days of Fortnite Season 2 Chapter 3 it is not possible to build in Solo, Duos, Trios and Squads modes. Other game modes such as Team Rumble are exempt from this restriction; here we can build without any problems.

Several of the Rebuilding missions have us destroy the hidden construction inhibitors that Imagined Orders has placed around various spots on the island. So rest assured: the construction will return to Fortnite in a few days. Until then, we have to wait, no more, no less.

For now, Epic also revealed a new mechanic that helps balance the protection the build provides. "To help maintain cover, you now have an Overshield on top of your Shield and Health. The Overshield is your first line of defense: before your Shield and Health take a hit, it's your Overshield that'll crack. Your Overshield will still recover if it goes all the way down to 0."
