One Piece Odyssey, a new JRPG for consoles and PC, has been announced: trailer and first details

One Piece fans were eagerly awaiting the streaming event where details of the manga, anime and other products related to the popular shonen have been revealed. As part of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the franchise, Bandai Namco has announced the next video game of the saga. It is One Piece Odyssey, an RPG with dungeons that will be released in 2022 for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC. Below you can watch the first official trailer.

The project is developed by Bandai Namco in collaboration with ILCA, the same studio that developed Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, the remakes of the Nintendo DS classics. This time the studio has a story written by the author of the manga himself, Eiichiro Oda. The soundtrack will be provided by the composer of the Tales of saga, Motoi Sakuraba.

A pirate world to explore

Although there are still many details to be revealed, the video game is developed with Unreal Engine and has a graphic aspect similar to manga and anime. We see Luffy going through all kinds of scenarios, opening chests and even climbing vines. As it could not be otherwise, its RPG aspect is also reflected in the combats, which will have a lot of presence. Other familiar faces also appear, which we will be able to take control of during the game.

“Jump in to a time of tears and laughter,” reads on the trailerr. “Let’s travel to the hearts of memories”. In an interview published on Bandai Namco's YouTube channel, producer Katsuaki Tsuzuki recalled that this is a JRPG and explained that he wants to offer a product that will satisfy both fans of the genre and One Piece fans. The initial concept responds to his desire to build an epic adventure within the universe of the saga.

Eiichiro Oda has created a new original character and has actively collaborated in the development. Tsuzuki assures that they wanted to preserve the authenticity of the project as much as possible. Remember that the manga is available at Manga Plus.
