CD Projekt takes the reins

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt delays its next-gen version indefinitely

CD Projekt RED issues an official statement announcing that it is taking over the next-gen project of its title, which was previously in the hands of Saber Interactive.

Update:
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt delays its next-gen version indefinitely

Bad news for those waiting for the new generation version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. CD Projekt RED has just confirmed that the expected free update for PS5 and Xbox X Series X|S is delayed indefinitely and until further notice, so it will no longer arrive this second quarter of 2022 as announced months ago. This has been shared by those responsible through an official statement, explaining that an internal team of the developer itself takes the reins of the project, which until now was in the hands of Saber Interactive.

The Witcher 3 for PS5 and Xbox X Series X|S is delayed

This has been made official by the communication team of CD Projekt RED through its official Twitter account, ensuring that the project now passes into the hands of an internal team of the Polish studio to finish everything that is still to be done and thus bring forward the long-awaited update for the new consoles from Sony and Microsoft. And with all the work involved, whether validation of what has been done so far and development of what remains to be done, it does not seem that the next-gen version has to come soon.

However, CD Projekt RED has had no choice but to delay a release scheduled for the next two months, considering that it was planned for the second quarter of the year. Although the most disappointing thing is that now they do not even offer an approximate release window, since the delay is indefinite and until further notice.

Recall that CD Projekt RED is already working on the next installment of The Witcher saga under Unreal Engine 5 instead of using its own graphics engine. Recently, Pawel Zawodny, the company's CTO, explained that the reason for this change of strategy is that the studio "needs a really stable environment".
